Nigel Latta and Kenzie’s Gift

A diagnosis of cancer within the family is devastating. The impact is felt by every member but the effects of cancer may be experienced most profoundly by the children. The provision of age appropriate psychosocial support for children and young people affected by cancer can help to manage and minimise the trauma.

Kenzie’s Gift works with children and young people living with cancer. Whether it is their own diagnosis or that of a sibling or parent, these children have significant issues stemming from the fears and anxieties arising from a diagnosis of cancer within the family. Timely intervention can alleviate these fears, offering reassurance and hope for a positive future.

When asked if he would be an Ambassador for Kenzie’s Gift, Nigel Latta agreed without hesitation. He is passionate about the psychosocial well being of New Zealand children and recognises the contribution Kenzie’s Gift is making. Nigel works tirelessly with children and young people in his profession as a Clinical Psychologist and his books about parenting and raising children have been hugely popular.

“I am proud to be an Ambassador for Kenzie’s Gift,” says Nigel. “It is important to heighten awareness of the need to support our children and young people when a family member is diagnosed with cancer. Kenzie’s Gift provides age appropriate, evidenced-based services delivered by registered professionals at a time when such support is desperately needed by children and their families. Kenzie’s Gift is an invaluable community resource and they need our help to grow and extend their services.”

Kenzie’s Gift is grateful for Nigel’s support. “Nigel is a champion for all New Zealand children who are affected by cancer,” says Nic Russell, Director of Kenzie’s Gift. “I cannot thank him enough for his support.”
