Our Vision
Our vision is to establish a specialist team consisting of community based psychologists/family therapists, play/youth specialists, art and music therapists. As such, we will be able to provide support from the point of diagnosis through treatment and beyond, which may encompass either bereavement or survivorship.
The aims of Kenzie's Gift are:
To encourage emotional and psychosocial supports in the family's home by providing age appropriate play opportunities and links with education and other relevant agencies. |
To allow the family/child themselves to have as "normal" a childhood and family life as possible by providing appropriate play opportunities, therapies and supports. |
To encourage the opportunity for extended family and whanua to participate in play, therapies and supports with the aim to enhance communicative and expressive opportunities. |
To provide on going support for families and whanau through survivorship or bereavement. |
Upon the family's request, liaise with schools and relevant groups which are an integral part of their lives, offering support, education and advice around the family's and child's needs. |
The Child Health Strategy 1998 states that children should be seen, heard, and have their needs met. This is especially paramount when caring for a child facing a life challenging illness. This link will take you directly to the Child Health Strategy, published by the NZ Ministry of Health. |
