Lara Mulgrew

Lara Mulgrew is a child and adolescent psychotherapist with over 25 years of experience supporting children, young people, and their families. She began her career as a registered nurse before graduating as a psychotherapist in 1998, bringing a uniquely grounded, holistic perspective to her work.

Throughout her career, Lara has worked across a wide range of settings — including Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Starship Children's Hospital, Infant Mental Health services, and private practice. She also works as a Clinical Educator at Auckland University of Technology (AUT), training the next generation of child and adolescent psychotherapists, and has provided clinical supervision to therapists and students for many years.

Areas of SupportLara works with children and young people across a wide range of challenges, including: sleeping and feeding concerns, grief and loss, adjustment difficulties, anger and emotional regulation, generalised and separation anxiety, relationship difficulties, emotional impacts of chronic or acute illness, and parenting challenges.

Therapeutic ApproachLara draws on a broad range of evidence-based methods to ensure each child, young person, and family feels comfortable and supported. These include play therapy, sand tray therapy, parent-infant psychotherapy, child and adolescent psychotherapy, parent-child interactive therapy, Circle of Security parenting, and Watch, Wait and Wonder.
